Apart from my first one in 1977, this is the best Morris Minor I’ve ever owned. (And I’ve owned over 2 dozen since that first, a ‘52 Splitscreen Convertible). It’s not quite in showroom condition. But 783 BBX has an incredible personality.

bbx3.jpg

I bought it from the family of the original owner. He maintained it regardless of cost. It had a complete restoration, with this excellent colour scheme. He fitted a sunroof, servo brakes, and it has lots of other little eccentric touches that make it a joy to own and drive.

I particularly like the very rare period accessory leather dashboard cover.

The V5C Registration Document is still in the original owner’s name, so the car is not taxed. On sale, it can therefore be taxed straight into the new owner’s name and the purchaser will therefore become the car’s second owner.

MY PERSONAL ASSESSMENT of 783 BBX

OVERALL CONDITION:
783 BBX is a rust-free car in excellent mechanical condition.

MECHANICAL CONDITION:
My mechanic has gone over it thoroughly, replaced some brake cyclinders, serviced it, and I had it MOT’d a month ago. I’ve driven it around and I can not find any mechanical defects. It is clean under the bonnet. The engine is a 948cc.The radiator is polished as you can see.
Engine Number 9MUH 635451 is on the original warranty as well as the current V5C registration document.

UNDERNEATH:
Underneath does not have any rust, but it looks like it has had new sills and cross-member; it has also been welded on the inner rear wings. It has been thoroughly painted underneath so it’s hard to tell what’s original and what’s been welded. But it is very tidy, and in my opinion probably had a total restoration perhaps sometime in the 1990’s.

BODYWORK:
The body is solid all-round; I haven’t seen any rust coming through. I assume it must have had new wings when it was restored. The paint is very good, but to my critical eye it was not a top professional job. The paint on the wheels could do with touching up.

INTERIOR:
The seats and door panels must have been replaced because they’re in such good condition. It has had new carpets which are good condition. The headlining is good except for a stain above the rear nearside (photo available on the website page 10).
The sunroof seems water-tight and opens and closes easily.
I’ve never seen an accessory leather dashboard cover before. It has no name on it, though etched into it in the centre at the front it says ‘Patents Applied For.’
Seatbelts not fitted.
Mileage under 64,000 verified by old MOT’s.

SUMMARY:
It is hard to find a car in this sort of condition with this kind of history. It’s a beauty. There are no jobs that need doing before you use it. It is not perfect, but very presentable and a joy to drive.

VIEWING

You are most welcome to nip down to Brighton and have a spin in it before you buy (I can pick you up at the station if necessary).

bbx7.jpg

The auction is running over 2 weekends to accommodate viewing if necessary. I’d much prefer that you look yourself, or get someone local to do so for you, before you buy. This is your responsibility. It’s a 45-year-old vintage car. It might be a £5000 classic, but it’s still an old car that needs more nurturing and attention than a modern car. PLEASE BE AWARE: there are always jobs that need doing on an old car.

bbx12.jpg

If you don’t mind driving a car that gets constant attention and improves you social life 100% then this might be the car for you!

bbx15.jpg

Best of luck with your bidding: that BID NOW button is just waiting to be pressed!

…And within minutes this fabulous and unique 45-year-old Morris Minor Deluxe will be packing its boot and instruction manual ready to meet a new owner to love and cherish it
