The Wolseley 4/50 and similar 6/80 were Wolseley Motor Company’s first post-war automobiles. They were rushed into production in 1948 and were based on the Morris Oxford MO and the Morris Six MS respectively. The 4 cylinder 4/50 used a 1476 cc 50 hp version of the 6/80 engine, while the 6/80 used a 2215 cc 72 hp (54 kW) straight-6 single overhead cam.

The Police’s loyalty to the Wolseley marque was remarkably strong right up to the mid-1960s. In fact, watch any British black & white crime film, and you’ll probably see a 6/80 before too long.

This Wolseley 6/80 with Conaught green bodywork is in absolutely superb condition.

It is owned by my friend Peter, in Skipton, north Yorkshire. But I sold it to him 3 or 4 years ago, so I know the car well.

It is his personal car, and he has spent money on it without any restraint. Not that it needed much doing to it, but there were a few jobs here and there. He gave it a respray, replaced the steering wheel, headlining and carpets. It has a Stainless steel exhaust.

The interior is as excellent as the exterior. Last time I visited Peter, as I opened the door the aroma of antique leather seats hit me immediately …and I regretted selling him the car!

The 2 litre OHC engine purrs and it drives effortlessly. Nothing needs doing on this car. It’s ready to jump in and use for instant time travel. It’s taxed and MOT’d. I thoroughly recommend this Wolseley 6/80 …and I wish I had the money available to buy it back myself.
